UTILIZATION OF ICT RESOURCES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF UBE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ANAMBRA STATE
Abstract:
The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education has revolutionized teaching and learning processes worldwide. This abstract examines the utilization of ICT resources in the management of Universal Basic Education (UBE) in secondary schools in Anambra State, Nigeria. It highlights the significance of ICT in enhancing the efficiency, effectiveness, and overall quality of educational administration and delivery.
The study adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from secondary school administrators, teachers, and students in Anambra State. The quantitative survey assesses the availability and access to ICT resources, such as computers, internet connectivity, software applications, and educational multimedia tools. The qualitative interviews explore the perceptions, challenges, and benefits associated with the utilization of ICT in UBE management.
Preliminary findings indicate that while there has been progress in the provision of ICT infrastructure in secondary schools, challenges remain regarding the effective utilization of these resources. Limited access to reliable internet connectivity, inadequate training and professional development for teachers, and insufficient funding for ICT infrastructure are among the major obstacles identified. However, respondents also acknowledge the potential benefits of ICT in enhancing teaching and learning experiences, improving administrative processes, and fostering digital literacy skills among students.
The study proposes several recommendations to enhance the utilization of ICT resources in UBE management in secondary schools in Anambra State. These include increasing investment in ICT infrastructure, providing continuous professional development programs for teachers, establishing partnerships with government agencies and private organizations to bridge the digital divide, and developing relevant policies and guidelines to support the integration of ICT in education.
In. conclusion, this study highlights the importance of effectively utilizing ICT resources in the management of UBE in secondary schools in Anambra State. By addressing the identified challenges and implementing the recommended strategies, stakeholders can harness the full potential of ICT tools to improve educational outcomes, empower students with digital skills, and contribute to the overall development of the education system in Anambra State.
