THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 AND INNOVATIVE WORK BEHAVIOUR ON THE WELL-BEING OF UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA STAFF

Abstract:
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has posed significant challenges to various sectors of society, including the higher education sector. This abstract focuses on the impact of COVID-19 and innovative work behavior on the wellbeing of staff members at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). The study aims to explore the effects of the pandemic on the wellbeing of university staff and examine how innovative work behavior can potentially mitigate the negative consequences.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the traditional work environment and forced organizations to adopt remote work and virtual communication strategies. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka, like many other institutions, implemented measures such as remote teaching and learning, telecommuting, and online meetings to ensure the continuity of academic activities. These changes have had profound implications for the wellbeing of staff members, who have had to adapt to new work arrangements while coping with the uncertainties and stressors associated with the pandemic.

Innovative work behavior refers to the ability of individuals to generate and implement creative ideas to solve work-related problems. This study examines how the adoption of innovative work behavior by UNN staff has influenced their wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic. By embracing innovative work behavior, staff members may have been able to find novel ways of coping with the challenges posed by the pandemic, enhancing their overall wellbeing.

The study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from UNN staff. The quantitative survey will assess the impact of COVID-19 on staff wellbeing, including factors such as job satisfaction, stress levels, work-life balance, and mental health. Additionally, qualitative interviews will provide insights into the strategies and innovative work behaviors adopted by staff members to navigate the challenges brought about by the pandemic.

The findings of this research will contribute to the understanding of the impact of COVID-19 on staff wellbeing in the higher education context, specifically at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The study aims to identify the most significant stressors and challenges faced by staff during the pandemic and explore how innovative work behavior has influenced their wellbeing. The results will provide valuable insights for university administrators and policymakers to develop strategies that promote the wellbeing of staff members during times of crisis and beyond.
