ASSESSMENT OF TEAM TEACHING PRACTICE BY LECTURERS IN PUBLIC TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN DELTA STATE

Abstract:
This study aims to investigate and assess the team teaching practice among lecturers in public tertiary institutions in Delta State. Team teaching, which involves two or more instructors collaboratively delivering instruction to a group of students, has gained recognition as an effective pedagogical approach that promotes student engagement, critical thinking, and holistic learning outcomes. However, its implementation and effectiveness in public tertiary institutions in Delta State have received limited attention.

The research design employed for this study is a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. A survey questionnaire will be administered to lecturers to gather information on their perceptions, attitudes, and experiences regarding team teaching. Additionally, interviews and focus group discussions will be conducted with selected lecturers to gain deeper insights into their understanding of team teaching, challenges faced, and potential strategies for improvement.

The study will focus on public tertiary institutions in Delta State, considering factors such as the availability of resources, institutional support, and lecturers' professional development opportunities. The collected data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, thematic analysis, and triangulation to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current status of team teaching practice in the selected institutions.

The anticipated findings of this study will contribute to the existing literature on team teaching and its applicability in the Nigerian educational context, specifically within the public tertiary education system. The results will help identify the strengths and weaknesses of current team teaching practices, highlight barriers and facilitators, and provide recommendations for enhancing the implementation and effectiveness of team teaching in Delta State.

The study's outcomes are expected to inform policy decisions and educational reforms aimed at improving teaching and learning practices in public tertiary institutions in Delta State. By promoting collaborative teaching approaches, this research has the potential to enhance the quality of education and contribute to the overall development of students in Delta State.
