IMPACT OF STUDENTS TEAM ACHIEVEMENT DIVISION STRATEGY ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN TRIGONOMETRY AMONG SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS, MAIDUGURI METROPOLIS BORNO STATE

Abstract:
This study investigates the impact of the Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) strategy on academic achievement in trigonometry among senior secondary schools in Maiduguri Metropolis, Borno State. The STAD strategy is a cooperative learning approach that emphasizes teamwork, collaboration, and individual accountability. Trigonometry is a branch of mathematics that deals with the relationships between the angles and sides of triangles.

The objective of this research is to determine whether the implementation of the STAD strategy in trigonometry classrooms improves students' academic achievement compared to traditional teaching methods. The study also aims to explore students' perceptions of the STAD strategy and its influence on their learning experience.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis techniques. The sample will consist of senior secondary school students from multiple schools in Maiduguri Metropolis, Borno State. The participants will be divided into two groups: an experimental group that will receive instruction using the STAD strategy and a control group that will receive traditional instruction.

Quantitative data will be collected through pre- and post-tests to assess students' academic achievement in trigonometry. The data will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques to determine the impact of the STAD strategy on academic achievement. Qualitative data will be gathered through interviews and questionnaires to gather students' perceptions and experiences with the STAD strategy.

The findings of this study are expected to provide insights into the effectiveness of the STAD strategy in improving academic achievement in trigonometry among senior secondary school students. The research may contribute to existing literature on cooperative learning strategies and provide recommendations for educators and policymakers to enhance teaching methods in mathematics education.
