ASSESSMENT OF ANXIETY DISORDER IN THE CONTEXT OF INCLUSIVE EDUCATION AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN NIGERIA
Abstract:
Anxiety disorder is a prevalent mental health issue that affects individuals of all ages, including secondary school students. In the context of inclusive education, where students with diverse abilities and backgrounds are educated together, the assessment of anxiety disorder becomes crucial to ensure the well-being and academic success of all students.
This research aims to assess anxiety disorder among secondary school students in Nigeria within the framework of inclusive education. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative measures to gather comprehensive data.
The quantitative aspect will involve administering standardized anxiety assessment tools, such as the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) and the Screen for Child Anxiety-Related Disorders (SCARED), to a representative sample of secondary school students. The data collected will be analyzed using statistical techniques to determine the prevalence and severity of anxiety disorders among the students.
In addition, qualitative methods, such as interviews and focus group discussions, will be conducted with students, teachers, and parents to gain deeper insights into the experiences, perceptions, and challenges associated with anxiety disorder in the inclusive education setting. Thematic analysis will be employed to extract meaningful themes and patterns from the qualitative data.
The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on anxiety disorder among secondary school students in Nigeria and its impact on inclusive education. The research outcomes will provide valuable information to educators, policymakers, and mental health professionals, enabling them to develop effective strategies and interventions to support students with anxiety disorders in an inclusive educational environment.
