Assessment of School Based Management Committees' Involvement in Managing Public Primary Schools in Maiduguri Metropolis, Borno State, Nigeria
Abstract:
This study aims to assess the involvement of School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) in managing public primary schools in Maiduguri Metropolis, Borno State, Nigeria. SBMCs are local committees comprised of community members, parents, teachers, and other stakeholders who play a key role in school governance and decision-making processes. The objective of this assessment is to evaluate the effectiveness of SBMCs in enhancing school management and improving educational outcomes in the context of a post-conflict region.
The research design employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques. A sample of public primary schools in Maiduguri Metropolis will be selected using stratified random sampling. Data will be collected through interviews, questionnaires, and document analysis. Key areas of investigation will include the composition and functionality of SBMCs, their level of involvement in decision-making, resource mobilization, and community engagement.
The findings of this study will provide insights into the current status of SBMCs' involvement in managing public primary schools in Maiduguri Metropolis. They will also highlight the challenges and opportunities faced by SBMCs in post-conflict settings, particularly in Borno State, Nigeria. The study's outcomes will inform policymakers, educational administrators, and other stakeholders about the effectiveness of SBMCs and their potential contribution to school improvement initiatives.
It is anticipated that the assessment will reveal the factors influencing the effectiveness of SBMCs, such as stakeholder commitment, communication, capacity-building, and resource allocation. The results will contribute to the existing literature on school governance, community participation, and educational reform in conflict-affected regions. Recommendations will be provided to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of SBMCs in managing public primary schools, thus promoting inclusive and quality education in Maiduguri Metropolis, Borno State, Nigeria.
