ASSESSMENT OF VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURAL TEACHERS READINESS FOR TEACHING BIOSCIENCE AND BIOTECHNOLOGY IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN GOMBE STATE, NIGERIA
Abstract:
This study aims to assess the readiness of vocational agricultural teachers for teaching bioscience and biotechnology in secondary schools in Gombe State, Nigeria. With the increasing importance of bioscience and biotechnology in various sectors, it is crucial to ensure that teachers possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to effectively teach these subjects to students.
The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. A questionnaire survey was conducted among vocational agricultural teachers in secondary schools across Gombe State to gather information on their educational background, professional development, perceived competence, and availability of instructional resources related to bioscience and biotechnology.
Additionally, focus group discussions and interviews were conducted to gain deeper insights into teachers' experiences, challenges, and perceptions regarding the teaching of bioscience and biotechnology. The qualitative data provided a more comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing teachers' readiness in this domain.
The findings of this study will contribute to identifying the gaps and strengths in the readiness of vocational agricultural teachers for teaching bioscience and biotechnology. The data will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques and thematic analysis to provide a comprehensive overview.
The results of this study will have implications for educational policymakers, curriculum developers, and teacher training institutions in Gombe State. Recommendations will be made to enhance vocational agricultural teachers' preparedness through targeted professional development programs, curriculum revisions, and adequate provision of instructional resources in bioscience and biotechnology.
Overall, this research endeavor aims to shed light on the current state of vocational agricultural teachers' readiness for teaching bioscience and biotechnology in secondary schools in Gombe State, Nigeria, and provide actionable recommendations to improve the quality of education in these subjects.
