SOFT SKILLS REQUIRED OF BUSINESS EDUCATION GRADUATES: PERCEPTION OF STUDENTS AND LECTURERS OF COLLEGES OF EDUCATION IN OYO STATE
Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the perception of students and lecturers in Colleges of Education in Oyo State regarding the soft skills required of business education graduates. In today's dynamic and competitive business environment, possessing a comprehensive set of soft skills is crucial for graduates to succeed in their professional careers. Soft skills encompass various interpersonal and intrapersonal attributes, such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability, leadership, and critical thinking.
The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. A questionnaire survey will be administered to a sample of business education students and lecturers from various colleges of education in Oyo State to gather quantitative data. The questionnaire will assess their perceptions of the importance of different soft skills for business education graduates.
Additionally, a series of semi-structured interviews will be conducted with a subset of participants to obtain qualitative insights into their perspectives, experiences, and suggestions regarding the development and integration of soft skills in the business education curriculum. Thematic analysis will be employed to identify recurring themes and patterns within the interview responses.
The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing a comprehensive understanding of the perceived importance and relevance of soft skills among business education students and lecturers in Oyo State. The results will also highlight any potential gaps between the soft skills emphasized in the curriculum and the skills demanded by the industry.
The implications of this research can assist educational policymakers, curriculum developers, and business education faculty in designing and implementing effective strategies to enhance the soft skills training of business education graduates. By aligning the curriculum with the expectations of both students and industry stakeholders, educational institutions can better equip graduates with the necessary skills to excel in their future careers.
