SPATIO-TEMPORAL ANALYSIS OF NOISE IN SELECTED AREAS OF OYO TOWNSHIP
Abstract:
Noise pollution is a significant environmental concern that affects the quality of life in urban areas. This study presents a spatio-temporal analysis of noise levels in selected areas of Oyo Township, aiming to assess the spatial distribution and temporal variations of noise pollution within the study area. The analysis provides valuable insights into the extent of noise pollution, identifies high-noise areas, and highlights potential mitigation strategies.
To conduct the study, noise measurements were collected at various locations within the township using sound level meters. The measurements were taken at different times of the day and on different days to capture temporal variations. Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques were employed to analyze the collected data and visualize the spatial patterns of noise pollution.
The results of the spatio-temporal analysis revealed significant variations in noise levels across different areas of Oyo Township. High-noise areas were primarily concentrated near major roadways, commercial zones, and industrial areas. Temporal analysis indicated that noise levels were higher during peak traffic hours and on weekdays compared to weekends. The study also identified specific locations with consistently high noise levels, suggesting the presence of chronic noise pollution sources.
The findings of this study provide crucial information for urban planners, policymakers, and environmental agencies to develop effective noise control strategies in Oyo Township. The identification of high-noise areas can aid in the implementation of targeted noise mitigation measures, such as noise barriers, traffic management, and land use planning. Furthermore, the temporal variations in noise levels highlight the importance of considering diurnal and weekly patterns when formulating noise regulations and designing urban environments.
Overall, this spatio-temporal analysis of noise pollution in selected areas of Oyo Township contributes to the understanding of the noise environment in the region and lays the foundation for future studies on noise mitigation and urban planning.
