ABSTRACT
This research project aims to investigate the challenges of mastering shorthand skills in Nigeria. Shorthand is a valuable skill widely used in various professions, including stenography, secretarial roles, court reporting, and transcription services. However, achieving mastery in shorthand requires dedicated practice, theoretical knowledge, and skill development. This research project seeks to identify the specific challenges faced by individuals in Nigeria when learning and mastering shorthand skills, and propose strategies to address these challenges.
A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and observations to collect data from individuals learning or using shorthand skills in Nigeria. The research objectives include identifying the key challenges encountered during the process of learning shorthand, exploring factors influencing the mastery of shorthand skills, and proposing strategies to overcome these challenges.
The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the challenges faced by individuals in Nigeria when learning and mastering shorthand skills. The research will explore challenges such as limited access to quality training resources, inadequate instructional support, lack of standardized training programs, and limited opportunities for practice and reinforcement. It will also examine factors that influence the mastery of shorthand skills, including individual motivation, learning environments, teaching methodologies, and the role of technology in shorthand education. Furthermore, the study will propose strategies to address these challenges, such as the development of comprehensive training programs, the establishment of shorthand learning centers, the utilization of technology-enhanced learning approaches, and the promotion of professional development opportunities for shorthand instructors
