CURRICULUM CONTENT, GENDER, SELF-EFFICACY AND ACQUISITION OF EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS AMONG BUSINESS EDUCATION GRADUATES OF UNIVERSITIES IN AKWA-IBOM STATE, NIGERIA

ABSTRACT 

This research project aims to examine the relationship between curriculum content, gender, self-efficacy, and the acquisition of employability skills among business education graduates of universities in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The curriculum plays a vital role in shaping students’ knowledge, skills, and competencies, particularly in preparing them for the job market. This study seeks to explore how curriculum content, gender, and self-efficacy influence the acquisition of employability skills among business education graduates.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and statistical analysis to collect data from business education graduates, faculty members, employers, and industry professionals in universities and organizations in Akwa Ibom State. The research objectives include assessing the curriculum content in business education programs, examining the relationship between curriculum content and the acquisition of employability skills, analyzing the influence of gender on employability skill acquisition, exploring the role of self-efficacy in skill acquisition, and identifying recommendations for enhancing the curriculum and promoting employability.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the relationship between curriculum content, gender, self-efficacy, and the acquisition of employability skills among business education graduates. The research will assess the curriculum content in business education programs, including the alignment with industry needs, the inclusion of practical skills, and the integration of emerging trends. It will examine the relationship between curriculum content and the acquisition of employability skills, such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, leadership, and digital literacy. The study will analyze the influence of gender on employability skill acquisition, exploring potential gender-based differences in skill development and career outcomes. Additionally, the research will explore the role of self-efficacy in skill acquisition, investigating how students’ beliefs in their own abilities impact their motivation and effort to acquire and apply employability skills. It will provide recommendations for enhancing the curriculum, considering factors such as curriculum review, industry collaboration, gender-inclusive strategies, and self-efficacy development.
