RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TEACHERS’ MOTIVATION, ATTITUDE AND STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN BAUCHI METROPOLIS
Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the relationship between teachers' motivation, attitude, and students' academic achievement in senior secondary schools in Bauchi Metropolis. The quality of education is greatly influenced by the motivation and attitude of teachers, as they play a crucial role in shaping students' learning experiences and academic outcomes. Understanding the factors that contribute to teachers' motivation and attitude and how they relate to students' academic achievement can provide valuable insights for educational policymakers and school administrators.
The study will employ a quantitative research design, using a questionnaire survey to collect data from a sample of teachers and students in senior secondary schools in Bauchi Metropolis. The questionnaire will consist of items related to teachers' motivation, attitude, and students' academic achievement. Teachers' motivation will be assessed by examining factors such as intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, job satisfaction, and professional development opportunities. Teachers' attitude will be measured by examining their beliefs, expectations, and perceptions of students' abilities. Students' academic achievement will be measured using their cumulative grade point average (CGPA) as an indicator.
Data analysis will involve descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis to explore the relationship between teachers' motivation, attitude, and students' academic achievement. The findings of the study are expected to reveal the extent to which teachers' motivation and attitude influence students' academic achievement. Additionally, the study will explore the mediating role of students' engagement and classroom environment in the relationship between teachers' motivation, attitude, and students' academic achievement.
The results of this study can have significant implications for educational practice and policy. By identifying the factors that influence teachers' motivation and attitude, educational stakeholders can develop strategies to enhance teacher motivation and improve teaching practices. Furthermore, understanding the relationship between teachers' motivation, attitude, and students' academic achievement can inform interventions and programs aimed at improving educational outcomes in senior secondary schools in Bauchi Metropolis
