Abstract:
The relationship between teachers' workload and students' academic performance is an important area of research in education. This study aims to examine the relationship between teachers' workload and students' academic performance in senior secondary schools in Irepodun Local Government, Kwara State, Nigeria.

A quantitative research design was employed for this study. A sample of senior secondary school students and teachers was selected using stratified random sampling. Data on teachers' workload, including the number of classes taught, the number of students per class, and the number of subjects taught, were collected through questionnaires. Students' academic performance data, such as examination scores and cumulative grade point averages (CGPAs), were obtained from school records.

Statistical analysis, including correlation and regression analysis, was conducted to examine the relationship between teachers' workload and students' academic performance. Additionally, focus group discussions and interviews were conducted with teachers to gain insights into their experiences and perceptions regarding workload and its impact on students' academic performance.

The findings revealed a significant relationship between teachers' workload and students' academic performance. A higher workload, characterized by larger class sizes, teaching multiple subjects, and excessive teaching hours, was associated with lower academic performance among students. The study also found that teachers' workload influenced their ability to provide individualized attention, timely feedback, and effective instructional strategies, which are crucial factors in promoting academic achievement.

Furthermore, the study identified various challenges contributing to teachers' workload, including limited teaching resources, inadequate staffing, and administrative demands. These challenges were found to negatively impact the quality of teaching and learning processes, leading to decreased student performance.

Based on the study's findings, recommendations were made to address the issue of teachers' workload and its impact on students' academic performance. These recommendations include reducing class sizes, ensuring adequate teaching resources, providing professional development opportunities for teachers, and implementing supportive administrative policies.

In conclusion, this study highlights the important relationship between teachers' workload and students' academic performance in senior secondary schools. It emphasizes the need for policy interventions and support mechanisms to alleviate teachers' workload, promote effective teaching practices, and ultimately enhance students' academic outcomes in Irepodun Local Government, Kwara State, Nigeria.
