THE ISSUES IN EVALUATION OF TEACHING AND LEARNING BUSINESS EDUCATION IN UNIVERSITIES IN SOUTH-SOUTH, NIGERIA

ABSTRACT 

This research project aims to identify and examine the issues surrounding the evaluation of teaching and learning in business education programs in universities in the South-South region of Nigeria. Evaluation plays a crucial role in assessing the effectiveness of educational programs and ensuring continuous improvement in teaching and learning outcomes. This study seeks to explore the challenges and concerns associated with the evaluation of business education in universities, as well as the perceptions and experiences of stakeholders regarding evaluation practices.

A qualitative research design will be employed, utilizing interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis to collect data from key stakeholders, including faculty members, students, administrators, and educational policymakers in universities in the South-South region. The research objectives include identifying the issues and challenges in the evaluation of teaching and learning in business education, understanding the factors contributing to these issues, exploring the perceptions and experiences of stakeholders, and proposing recommendations for improvement.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the issues surrounding the evaluation of teaching and learning in business education programs in universities in the South-South region of Nigeria. The research will identify a range of issues, including the lack of clear evaluation criteria, inadequate training and support for faculty in evaluation practices, limited use of student feedback, ineffective assessment methods, and challenges in measuring learning outcomes. It will explore the factors contributing to these issues, such as institutional policies, resource constraints, faculty workload, and cultural factors. Additionally, the study will examine the perceptions and experiences of stakeholders regarding evaluation practices, including their views on the strengths and weaknesses of current evaluation approaches.

The implications of this research extend to universities, faculty members, students, administrators, and policymakers. The findings will provide universities with insights into the challenges and concerns surrounding the evaluation of teaching and learning in business education, enabling them to develop strategies to address these issues and enhance evaluation practices. Faculty members can benefit from the research outcomes by understanding the areas for improvement in evaluation methods and incorporating effective evaluation strategies into their teaching practices. Students can contribute to the research findings by sharing their experiences and perceptions regarding evaluation practices, which can inform the development of student-centered evaluation approaches. Administrators and policymakers can utilize the research findings to inform policy reforms and institutional initiatives that promote effective evaluation practices in business education.
