Abstract:
This study investigates the influence of social studies education on resource allocation as perceived by post-graduate students in the University of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. Resource allocation refers to the distribution of limited resources, such as time, money, and materials, among various competing needs and priorities within an educational setting. Social studies education encompasses a multidisciplinary approach to learning, integrating knowledge from various social sciences to promote a holistic understanding of society and its systems.

The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques to gather data and explore the perceptions of post-graduate students. The study's sample consisted of a diverse group of post-graduate students enrolled in various programs at the University of Jos. Data collection involved the administration of questionnaires and conducting semi-structured interviews to gain insights into the students' perspectives.

Quantitative analysis provided statistical information on the relationship between social studies education and perceptions of resource allocation among post-graduate students. The qualitative analysis involved a thematic analysis of interview transcripts to identify recurring themes and gain a deeper understanding of the students' perceptions.

The findings of this study revealed several important insights. Firstly, post-graduate students perceived social studies education as instrumental in developing their awareness of societal issues and the complexities of resource allocation. They believed that social studies education equipped them with critical thinking skills and a broader perspective, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding resource allocation.

Furthermore, the study identified specific areas where social studies education was perceived to influence resource allocation. These areas included ethical considerations, social justice, sustainability, and equitable distribution of resources. The students emphasized the importance of considering social, economic, and environmental factors when allocating resources within educational institutions.

Based on these findings, the study recommends the integration of social studies education into post-graduate programs in universities. This integration can be achieved through the incorporation of relevant courses, workshops, and seminars that emphasize the importance of resource allocation and its impact on society. Additionally, the study highlights the need for policymakers and administrators to recognize the value of social studies education and its potential to shape resource allocation practices in educational institutions.

In conclusion, this study contributes to the understanding of the influence of social studies education on resource allocation as perceived by post-graduate students. It highlights the significance of social studies education in fostering critical thinking skills and promoting a holistic understanding of resource allocation. By incorporating social studies education into post-graduate programs, universities can prepare students to become informed decision-makers who consider societal implications when allocating resources.
