INFLUENCE OF STUDY HABITS ON STUDENTS’ MATHEMATICS AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE ACHIEVEMENT IN PUBLIC SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN NORTH CENTRAL NIGERIA
Abstract:
This study investigates the influence of study habits on students' mathematics and English language achievement in public senior secondary schools in North Central Nigeria. The significance of this research lies in understanding the factors that contribute to students' academic performance in these core subjects, which have a pivotal role in a student's overall educational attainment.
The study adopts a quantitative research design, utilizing a sample of students from public senior secondary schools in the North Central region of Nigeria. A structured questionnaire is used to collect data on students' study habits, which include factors such as study time allocation, study environment, study materials, and study techniques. Additionally, students' performance in mathematics and English language is assessed using their academic records.
The findings of this study provide insights into the relationship between study habits and academic achievement in mathematics and English language. It is expected that students who exhibit effective study habits, such as regular study time allocation, a conducive study environment, and effective study techniques, will demonstrate higher levels of achievement in these subjects. On the other hand, students with poor study habits are likely to have lower academic performance.
The results of the study can be used to inform educational policymakers, school administrators, teachers, and parents about the importance of cultivating effective study habits among students. Recommendations for improving study habits can be made based on the findings, such as providing students with guidance and resources to develop effective study skills and creating a supportive learning environment.
In conclusion, this study aims to shed light on the influence of study habits on students' mathematics and English language achievement in public senior secondary schools in North Central Nigeria. By understanding the factors that affect academic performance in these subjects, educators and stakeholders can implement strategies to enhance students' study habits and improve their overall academic outcomes.
