ROLE OF THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN MITIGATING THE EFFECTS OF ECONOMIC RECESSION ON CHILD MALNUTRITION IN URBAN AREAS
Abstract:
Child malnutrition is a significant public health concern, particularly in urban areas, where economic recessions can exacerbate the issue. This research project aims to explore the role of the healthcare system in mitigating the effects of economic recessions on child malnutrition in urban areas.
The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis and qualitative interviews. Quantitative data will be collected from existing national and regional databases, focusing on indicators such as child malnutrition rates, household income, unemployment rates, and healthcare accessibility. The data will be analyzed using statistical methods to identify correlations and trends between economic recessions, healthcare system factors, and child malnutrition rates.
Qualitative interviews will be conducted with healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community stakeholders involved in child nutrition and healthcare services. These interviews will provide insights into the strategies employed by the healthcare system to address child malnutrition during economic recessions. The qualitative data will be thematically analyzed to identify common themes, challenges, and best practices.
The research project aims to achieve several objectives:
- Assess the impact of economic recessions on child malnutrition rates in urban areas.
- Identify the specific mechanisms through which economic recessions affect child malnutrition, such as decreased household income, unemployment, and reduced access to nutritious food.
- Examine the response of the healthcare system to mitigate the effects of economic recessions on child malnutrition.
- Identify successful interventions and strategies implemented by the healthcare system to address child malnutrition during economic downturns.
- Provide recommendations and policy implications for healthcare systems, policymakers, and stakeholders to enhance their role in mitigating the effects of economic recessions on child malnutrition.
The findings of this research project will contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationship between economic recessions, the healthcare system, and child malnutrition in urban areas. The results will inform evidence-based interventions and policy recommendations aimed at improving child nutrition during economic downturns. By strengthening the role of the healthcare system, it is hoped that the adverse effects of economic recessions on child malnutrition can be minimised, leading to better health outcomes for vulnerable urban populations.
