ABSTRACT 

This research project aims to investigate the utilization of social software technologies for enhancing self-regulated learning among business education students in Abia State, Nigeria. Self-regulated learning refers to learners’ ability to take control of their learning process, set goals, monitor progress, and employ effective learning strategies. Social software technologies, such as online discussion forums, social networking platforms, and collaborative tools, have the potential to facilitate self-regulated learning by providing opportunities for interaction, collaboration, and knowledge sharing. Understanding the utilization of social software technologies in promoting self-regulated learning among business education students is crucial for enhancing their learning experiences and academic performance.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining surveys, interviews, and quantitative analysis of data to gather information from business education students, educators, administrators, and relevant stakeholders in Abia State, Nigeria. The research objectives include assessing the current utilization of social software technologies for self-regulated learning, exploring students’ perceptions and experiences of using social software technologies, examining educators’ perspectives and practices in utilizing these technologies, identifying the benefits and challenges of using social software technologies for self-regulated learning, and suggesting strategies for effectively integrating social software technologies into business education programs.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the utilization of social software technologies for enhancing self-regulated learning among business education students in Abia State, Nigeria. The research will assess the current utilization of social software technologies, considering factors such as the types of technologies used, frequency of use, and purposes of utilization. It will explore students’ perceptions and experiences of using social software technologies for self-regulated learning, including their motivations, attitudes, perceived benefits, and challenges. The study will also examine educators’ perspectives and practices regarding the integration of social software technologies, exploring their pedagogical approaches, training needs, and perceived barriers to effective utilization. Additionally, the research will identify the benefits and challenges of using social software technologies for self-regulated learning, such as increased engagement, collaboration, knowledge sharing, improved metacognitive skills, technical difficulties, privacy concerns, and digital divide issues. It will suggest strategies for effectively integrating social software technologies into business education programs, including professional development programs for educators, infrastructure improvements, curriculum revisions, and support services for students.

The implications of this research extend to business education students, educators, administrators, policymakers, and stakeholders in Abia State, Nigeria. The findings will provide business education students with insights into the potential benefits of utilizing social software technologies for self-regulated learning and guide them in effectively leveraging these technologies to enhance their learning experiences. Educators can benefit from the research outcomes by understanding the perspectives and challenges associated with integrating social software technologies and adopting effective pedagogical strategies for promoting self-regulated learning. Administrators and policymakers can utilize the research findings to inform resource allocation, infrastructure development, and policy decisions that support the integration of social software technologies into business education programs. Stakeholders can consider the research outcomes when formulating collaborations, initiatives, and funding opportunities aimed at promoting the effective utilization of social software technologies for self-regulated learning in Abia State.
