Effect of Interactive Computer Software Package on Keyboarding Students Academic Achievement Between Gender in Federal Colleges of Education in North East Nigeria

Abstract:
This study investigates the effect of an interactive computer software package on the academic achievement of keyboarding students, focusing on gender differences in Federal Colleges of Education in North East Nigeria. With the increasing reliance on computer-based technologies, keyboarding skills have become essential for effective communication and productivity in various fields. However, there is limited research on the impact of interactive computer software packages specifically tailored for keyboarding instruction in the Nigerian educational context, particularly regarding gender-based differences.

The study employs a quasi-experimental design, utilizing pre-test and post-test assessments, to evaluate the academic achievement of keyboarding students. The participants consist of male and female students enrolled in Federal Colleges of Education in the North East region. Random assignment of students to either the experimental group or the control group is conducted. The experimental group receives keyboarding instruction supplemented by an interactive computer software package, while the control group receives traditional keyboarding instruction without the software package.

Data is collected through standardized keyboarding tests, measuring speed, accuracy, and overall proficiency, both before and after the intervention. The collected data is analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques, including t-tests and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), to determine the impact of the interactive computer software package on students' academic achievement. Additionally, gender-based differences are examined to assess whether the effect of the software package varies between male and female students.

The anticipated findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on computer-assisted learning and keyboarding instruction in the Nigerian educational context. The results will provide insights into the effectiveness of interactive computer software packages in enhancing keyboarding skills among students, and whether the impact differs between genders. The findings may inform educational policymakers, curriculum developers, and educators in designing effective instructional strategies to improve keyboarding education and bridge potential gender gaps in academic achievement.
