Abstract:
This abstract provides a summary of a study conducted to explore the acquisition of data analytical entrepreneurial skills by business education students in Rivers State tertiary institutions and its impact on their ability to secure decent work opportunities. With the increasing demand for data-driven decision-making in various industries, the acquisition of data analytical skills has become crucial for students pursuing careers in business and entrepreneurship.

The study employed a mixed-methods research design, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. A sample of business education students from multiple tertiary institutions in Rivers State was selected using stratified random sampling techniques. The participants’ demographics, educational background, and level of exposure to data analytical tools were assessed through surveys. Additionally, semi-structured interviews were conducted to gain deeper insights into the students’ perceptions of the importance of data analytics for entrepreneurial success and their preparedness for the job market.

Preliminary findings indicate that business education students in Rivers State tertiary institutions have a moderate level of exposure to data analytical tools and techniques. While a significant number of students are familiar with basic data analysis concepts, advanced skills such as predictive modeling, data visualization, and machine learning are less prevalent. The study revealed that students recognize the importance of data analytics in entrepreneurial endeavors and believe that it enhances their employability prospects.

Furthermore, the research highlights several challenges faced by students in acquiring data analytical skills, including limited access to relevant resources, inadequate curriculum integration, and the need for specialized training programs. Recommendations are provided to address these challenges, including curriculum revision to incorporate more comprehensive data analytics coursework, partnerships between academic institutions and industry stakeholders to provide practical training opportunities, and the establishment of data analytics centers within tertiary institutions.

The implications of this study are significant for policymakers, educators, and students in Rivers State.
