Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the extent to which business subjects teachers in Imo State secondary schools utilize spreadsheet skills in teaching business subjects. Spreadsheets are powerful tools that can enhance the teaching and learning process, particularly in the field of business education. However, the extent to which these tools are integrated into the teaching practices of business subjects teachers remains unclear.

The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. A questionnaire survey will be administered to a representative sample of business subjects teachers in Imo State secondary schools to assess their self-reported spreadsheet skills and their frequency of utilization in teaching. Additionally, interviews will be conducted with a subset of participants to gain a deeper understanding of their experiences, challenges, and perceptions regarding spreadsheet skill utilization in the classroom.

The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the current state of spreadsheet skill utilization among business subjects teachers in Imo State. It will shed light on the factors that facilitate or hinder the integration of spreadsheet skills in teaching business subjects. The results will also inform educational policymakers, curriculum developers, and teacher training programs on the importance of incorporating spreadsheet skills into the professional development of business subjects teachers.

It is anticipated that the study will reveal variations in spreadsheet skill utilization among teachers, with some teachers demonstrating a high level of proficiency and incorporating spreadsheets into their teaching practices, while others may exhibit limited or no usage. The study will identify potential barriers, such as lack of training, inadequate resources, or resistance to change, that may hinder the effective integration of spreadsheet skills in the classroom.

The implications of this research are significant, as the effective utilization of spreadsheet skills by business subjects teachers can enhance student engagement, critical thinking, data analysis, and problem-solving abilities. Ultimately, this study seeks to contribute to the improvement of business education in Imo State by promoting the integration of technology tools, such as spreadsheets, into teaching practices, thereby equipping students with essential skills for the business world and fostering their overall academic success.
