REPOSITIONING OFFICE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT LECTURERS FOR EFFECTIVE DELIVERY IN A DIGITAL ERA

Abstract:
The advent of the digital era has brought about significant changes in the educational landscape, necessitating the repositioning of lecturers in the field of Office Technology and Management (OTM). This abstract highlights the importance of equipping OTM lecturers with the necessary skills and competencies to effectively deliver education in a digital environment.

The objectives of this study are to identify the key challenges faced by OTM lecturers in adapting to the digital era, and to propose strategies for repositioning them for effective delivery. The research methodology employed in this study is a combination of literature review and qualitative interviews with OTM lecturers.

The findings reveal that OTM lecturers encounter several challenges in adapting to the digital era. These challenges include a lack of digital literacy, limited access to technology infrastructure, resistance to change, and the need for pedagogical transformation. To overcome these challenges, this study proposes a multifaceted approach.

Firstly, OTM lecturers should be provided with comprehensive training programs to enhance their digital literacy skills. This includes training on relevant software applications, online teaching platforms, and effective online instructional techniques. Additionally, institutional support should be given to ensure access to up-to-date technology infrastructure, such as computers, internet connectivity, and multimedia resources.

Secondly, a systematic change management process needs to be implemented to address resistance to change among OTM lecturers. This involves creating awareness about the benefits of digitalization, addressing concerns, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

Lastly, pedagogical transformation should be prioritized to align with the requirements of the digital era. OTM lecturers should be encouraged to adopt student-centered and interactive teaching methodologies, leveraging digital tools and resources to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

In conclusion, this study underscores the need to reposition OTM lecturers for effective delivery in a digital era. By addressing challenges through comprehensive training, technology infrastructure support, change management, and pedagogical transformation, OTM lecturers can successfully navigate the digital landscape and provide quality education to students pursuing careers in office technology and management.
