Learning disabilities present significant challenges for individuals across various aspects of their lives, including academics, social interactions, and overall well-being. To comprehensively understand these challenges, it is crucial to adopt a theoretical framework that provides insights into the underlying cognitive processes involved. The Information Processing Theory (IPT) offers a valuable perspective for examining learning disabilities by focusing on how individuals acquire, process, store, and retrieve information. This abstract provides an overview of the key concepts and principles of IPT and its application to understanding the challenges faced by individuals with learning disabilities.
The IPT posits that the human cognitive system consists of multiple interconnected processes, including attention, perception, memory, and executive functions. Individuals with learning disabilities often exhibit difficulties in one or more of these cognitive domains. For example, some individuals may struggle with attention regulation, leading to difficulties in focusing and sustaining attention during learning tasks.
