DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION SECURITY CODE LOCK

ABSTRACT

This Digital Door Lock – is simply a password based electronic code lock designed using 8051 micro controller, a keypad and a 12 volt dc relay. In this article, we have designed a simple digital door lock using 8051 -which can be used as a security checking system to limit access to an area/room only for certain individuals with the password. So our digital door lock project can be called with a very wide range of names like a digital combination lock using 8051 or a digital security code lock using 8051 microcontroller or a password security system using 8051 or an electronic code lock or a digital code lock using 8051. People call this kind of a “security system” with different names, though all of them mean to build a basic password based security system using a micro controller like 8051 or avr or pic or arduino (a controller of choice) with extra features like automatic door lock/opening facility, sound alarm, gsm based sms alert etc.

This research projects consist of a code based security locking system which provides a great solution to improve the  safety management of doors. Arduino IDE software and a Bluetooth module hc-05 were used to connect between the smartphone, the microcontroller and the door lock to give an easy access to authorized persons. The person with the authority to open the door can have access within their fingertips by installing the required application which has open/close button. The hc-05 serves as a receiver and transmitter but also communicates with the microcontroller which serves as a processing unit in this project and decides whether the password entered by the user is right or wrong and then send the servo motor to either open or close the door. If the password is right the user can have access to the door and when the password is wrong the user will have no access whatsoever. Enhancing the safety and security of main entrance doors.  

   

 

CHAPTER ONE  

1.0INTRODUCTION 

1.1 Background Information

The increasing rate of crime, attacks by thieves, intruders and vandals, despite all forms of security gadgets and locks still need the attention of researchers to find a permanent solution to the well-being of lives and properties of individual. Even with the use of mechanical locks, the crime rate still has increased due to the fact that these locks are easily broken. Consequently, there is a need for other types of locks especially electronic ones. To this end, we construct a cheap and effective security system for buildings, cars, safes, doors and gates, so as to prevent unauthorized person from having access to ones properties through the use of  codes.

Generally, traditional locks are heavy and that are not strong as they can damage simply by using some tools. Electronic locks are better over mechanical locks, to resolve the security problems that are connected with the mechanical locks. In recent days every device uses digital technology. For example, identification of digital device using token, door lock system using digital technology, automatic door opening and closing, automatic door lock systems, etc. These kinds of systems are used for controlling the movement of a door without using a key. Often associated with vehicles, keyless door entry is also changing the way we access buildings and interact with public and private spaces. This convenient and time-saving technology isn’t new (relatively speaking), but you might bless familiar with the many features and options available today.

 

Traditional lock systems using mechanical lock and key mechanism are being replaced by new advanced techniques of locking system. These techniques are an integration of mechanical and electronic devices and highly intelligent. One of the prominent features of these innovative lock systems is their simplicity and high efficiency.

1.2       Problem Statement

Security is one of the major needs of human race, coming to security locks electronics system has introduce different ways of protecting lives and properties by the use of password authentication, this system has one of the major electronic advanced system and can be used in different locking system.  With the vast and different forms of keeping doors locked from unauthorized persons many people tend to use low means of protection. Meanwhile the deployment is of more advanced technology like the use of code based  security is a step forward. This project aims to keep doors safe and also ease access.

1.3        Justification

In general terms my project is a more user friendly project with easy access to users. People that have problems physically like cripples or half paralysis can have access to doors without the help of anybody not even an assistant, as long as they are in position of smartphone. The physically challenged persons can open or lock any door they have permission to, or even lock or unlock a door while sitting on their wheel chairs, resting sofas or sleeping bed.

1.4 Aim and Objectives

The main objectives for embarking on this project of construction of a security  lock code system are;

  1. To design and create a password door locking system
  2. To implement and show how to design a password looking system
  3. To experiment the application of electronic devices as locks.
  4. To prevent unauthorized person from having access to ones properties through the use of codes.
  5. To raise awareness on the topic of security or access control.

 

1.5   Scope of The Project

This  project is limited to performing the task of opening and closing of doors precisely main entrance doors of a building. It is not designed for the purpose of surveillance in a home or any building nor is it a burglar alarm that alarms you in any case of perimeter bridging it’s only limited to performing the task of opening and closing.    Each component was programmed separately with Arduino UNO using different Arduino IDE. Also they were run in different computers. Later on all were combined in a single Arduino IDE.
