Abstract
The emphasis in Nigeria has been on teaching strategies that put students' needs and interests at the center of instruction. Utilizing an activity-based teaching approach is one of the well-liked teaching strategies that allow for achieving this fundamental educational goal in the present day. The main focus of the research is on analyzing how activity-based learning affects students' academic performance and retention in Lagos state. The study used a questionnaire and 40 items from multiple-choice tests, using a quasi-experimental research method. The study discovered that teaching social studies to junior high school students using an activity-based approach has significant advantages. Students also become more engaged in class, maintain their interests, develop higher-order thinking skills, and maximize their chances of doing well in the classroom.
