The Effectiveness of a Commercial Herbal Formulation in Preventing Coccidiosis under Natural Exposure to Eimeria Species

Abstract:

This research aimed to assess the effectiveness of a Commercial Herbal Formulation in preventing Coccidiosis under real-world exposure to Eimeria species at an Animal Production Teaching and Research Farm between March and May 2020. A total of 180 day-old broiler chicks were randomly allocated into three treatment groups using a completely randomized design with 3 replicates, each containing 20 birds. The groups were labeled as T1, T2, and T3.

T1 received Ruchamax at a 15g dose in water, T2 was administered amprolium at 100g, and T3 served as the control group. Data collected on parameters such as weight gain, carcass characteristics, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, nutrient digestibility, and hematological indices were subjected to statistical analysis using SPSS software.

Results indicated no significant differences (p>0.05) in carcass characteristics, nutrient retention, and weight gain among the treatment groups. Notably, significant variations (p<0.05) were observed in hematological indices between the treatment groups. No significant differences were found in serum parameters between the different treatments.

The analysis of fecal samples demonstrated the efficacy of Ruchamax in countering coccidiosis, as evidenced by decreasing infection levels over the course of the study. In conclusion, the consistent weekly coccidiosis outcomes underscore the safety and effectiveness of Ruchamax as an anticoccidial agent. The study findings reveal that a 15g dose of Ruchamax yields results comparable to amprolium in controlling and preventing coccidiosis in broiler chickens.
