ABSTRACT

Cloud computing represents a transformative computing technology that extends its services to both consumers and businesses, enabling organizations to enhance their agility and flexibility. Consequently, ensuring Quality of Service (QoS) holds paramount importance for both service providers and consumers. Information and communication technologies have created a convenient environment for users to access computing, communication, and cloud services, which are offered by cloud service providers (CSPs) through cloud computing platforms. These platforms supply resources and services in accordance with service level agreements (SLAs) negotiated between CSPs and customers. Cloud computing, as an emerging virtualization technology within the realm of the Internet, furnishes unlimited computational power, storage capacity, and service delivery over the Internet. In order to establish a conducive and mutually beneficial relationship between CSPs and customers, both parties are required to enter into and agree upon SLAs. These SLAs often outline parameters such as availability, performance, and other specifics related to various customer infrastructure components. Moreover, SLAs typically encompass strategies for addressing downtime and documentation outlining how service providers will compensate customers in the event of contractual breaches, often through the provision of service credits on demand. However, one notable issue in the current landscape is that cloud service providers tend to monopolize the formulation of SLAs, with a lack of client-side monitoring mechanisms. This raises a crucial question: Is there a system capable of monitoring cloud services from the client side?

This study aims to address this question by proposing a client-side survey, involving selected customers and technical observations, and conducting a conflict analysis of current cloud computing services. Subsequently, the study plans to simulate and implement a system model using simulation tools like Appneta and Cloud-Sim, employing a best-fit strategy. The ultimate goal is to design a customer-side monitoring and metering system that reduces conflicts between service providers and consumers while fostering trust and transparency between both parties.
