ABSTRACT

This case study delves into the implementation and impact of early intervention strategies for children with learning disabilities in Nigeria. Recognizing the critical importance of timely support for children’s learning and development, this research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining assessments, parent interviews, and classroom observations. The study encompasses a diverse sample of children with learning disabilities and their families across various regions in Nigeria. Findings reveal that early intervention programs play a pivotal role in supporting children with learning disabilities on their educational journey. Targeted interventions, delivered by skilled educators, therapists, and support professionals, focus on enhancing academic skills, fostering self-esteem, and nurturing social-emotional development. The study identifies specific strategies, such as individualized education plans, early screening, and family involvement, which contribute to improved learning outcomes and overall well-being. the research also uncovers challenges in the provision of early intervention services, including limited access to specialized professionals, resource constraints, and the need for increased awareness and advocacy for early detection and intervention. Additionally, cultural perspectives and awareness surrounding learning disabilities may influence the acceptance and utilization of early intervention services within the Nigerian context. this case study hold significant implications for early childhood education policy and practice in Nigeria. Recommendations are provided for the expansion and enhancement of early intervention programs, emphasizing increased investment in professional development, community outreach efforts, and the establishment of support networks for families. This research contributes to the broader discourse on early childhood development and the support of children with learning disabilities. By showcasing the effectiveness of targeted early intervention within the Nigerian context, this study advocates for the widespread adoption and integration of evidence-based practices to enhance learning and development in children with learning disabilities. The insights gleaned from this case study can serve as a foundation for further research and inform best practices in early intervention for children with learning challenges, not only in Nigeria but also in diverse global contexts.
