Abstract:
Slug flow, characterized by alternating liquid slugs and gas pockets, is a common flow pattern encountered in various industrial processes. Understanding the hydrodynamics of slug flow is crucial for optimizing the design and operation of pipelines and multiphase flow systems. In this study, the hydrodynamics of slug flow in a 10-degree inclined pipe were investigated using Electrical Capacitance Tomography (ECT) data.

ECT is a non-intrusive imaging technique that can provide real-time information about the distribution of phases in multiphase flows. By utilizing ECT data, the study aimed to gain insights into the flow characteristics, such as slug length, slug velocity, and liquid holdup, in the inclined pipe.

Experimental measurements were performed in a laboratory-scale setup, where a mixture of air and water was transported through the inclined pipe. ECT sensors were placed around the circumference of the pipe to capture the cross-sectional information of the flow. The acquired ECT data were processed and analyzed to extract relevant hydrodynamic parameters.

The results of the study revealed important aspects of slug flow in an inclined pipe. The inclination angle of the pipe was found to significantly influence the slug behavior, with changes observed in slug length and velocity. The liquid holdup distribution along the pipe length was also affected by the inclination angle.

Furthermore, the study demonstrated the potential of ECT as a valuable tool for characterizing slug flow in inclined pipes. The non-intrusive nature of ECT allows for continuous monitoring of the flow without disturbing the flow patterns, making it suitable for industrial applications.

In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the hydrodynamics of slug flow in a 10-degree inclined pipe using Electrical Capacitance Tomography data. The findings contribute to a better understanding of multiphase flow behavior in inclined pipelines, thereby enabling improved design and operation of such systems in various industries.
