ABSTRACT

This research project aims to investigate the relationship between skills acquisition and decent work in the digital era among business education students in tertiary institutions in Delta State, Nigeria. In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, it is essential to understand the skills that are relevant for securing and maintaining decent employment opportunities in the business field.

The study will employ a quantitative research design, utilizing surveys to collect data from business education students in selected tertiary institutions in Delta State. The research objectives include assessing the level of skills acquisition among students, examining the relationship between acquired skills and decent work outcomes, and identifying the specific skills most valued by employers in the digital era.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing literature by providing insights into the correlation between skills acquisition and decent work in the digital era among business education students. The research will shed light on the skills that are most crucial for securing employment and achieving job satisfaction in the rapidly changing business landscape, such as digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and adaptability. Additionally, the study will explore the extent to which acquired skills align with the demands of the digital era and the potential gaps that need to be addressed.

The implications of this research extend to educational policymakers, curriculum developers, career counselors, and business education institutions. The findings will inform policymakers and curriculum developers about the importance of integrating digital skills and other relevant competencies into the business education curriculum to enhance students’ employability in the digital era. Career counselors can utilize the research findings to provide guidance and support to students in identifying and developing the skills necessary for decent work outcomes. Business education institutions can use the research findings to align their programs with industry needs and facilitate students’ transition into the digital workforce.
