Abstract:
This abstract provides a concise overview of the research study focused on identifying the management competency needs of principals for effective administration in Anambra State public secondary schools. The study aimed to explore the essential skills and knowledge required by principals to effectively lead and manage secondary schools in the state.

The research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. A survey questionnaire was distributed among a sample of principals in Anambra State public secondary schools to gather quantitative data, while interviews were conducted with a subset of principals to gather qualitative insights.

The findings of the study revealed several key management competencies that principals need to effectively administer secondary schools in Anambra State. These competencies include strategic planning and decision-making, instructional leadership, financial management, human resource management, community engagement, and communication skills. The study also identified specific challenges faced by principals in acquiring and implementing these competencies, such as limited resources, inadequate professional development opportunities, and bureaucratic constraints.

The results of this research have significant implications for educational policymakers, school administrators, and professional development providers. The findings underscore the importance of providing principals with comprehensive training and support in acquiring the identified management competencies. Effective professional development programs should be designed to address the specific needs of principals in Anambra State public secondary schools, enabling them to enhance their leadership skills and improve school performance.

Overall, this study contributes to the existing literature on educational leadership and management by shedding light on the specific competency needs of principals in Anambra State. By addressing these needs, educational stakeholders can work towards improving the overall quality of administration in public secondary schools, ultimately benefiting students, teachers, and the community at large.
