This abstract examines the complex dynamics of gender and decision-making concerning bodily autonomy within established unions in Nigeria and explores the implications for counseling. In Nigeria, traditional gender roles and societal expectations often shape power dynamics within relationships, particularly within marital unions. Consequently, decision-making regarding one's body, including reproductive choices, healthcare decisions, and personal boundaries, can become a source of conflict and inequality.

This study draws on existing literature and qualitative research to analyze the factors influencing gendered decision-making in Nigeria's context. The findings suggest that patriarchal norms, cultural traditions, religious beliefs, and socioeconomic factors significantly impact how power is distributed and exercised within established unions. Men are often granted more decision-making authority, while women's agency and autonomy are limited, particularly when it comes to matters concerning their own bodies.
