Abstract:

The study aims to investigate the effectiveness of chemistry teaching and learning in senior secondary schools in Lagos State. Chemistry plays a crucial role in the development of scientific knowledge and is a vital subject in the senior secondary school curriculum. However, the effectiveness of its teaching and learning practices may vary across different educational settings, such as Lagos State.

This research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. A sample of senior secondary school students, chemistry teachers, and school administrators will be selected from various schools in Lagos State using a stratified random sampling technique. The study will utilize questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations to gather data.

The quantitative data will be analyzed using statistical techniques, including descriptive statistics and inferential analysis, to examine the relationship between variables such as teaching methods, instructional materials, and student performance in chemistry. The qualitative data will be analyzed thematically to identify common themes, patterns, and experiences related to chemistry teaching and learning.

The research aims to explore several factors that may impact the effectiveness of chemistry teaching and learning, including teacher qualifications, availability of instructional resources, curriculum alignment, and student engagement. Additionally, it will investigate the perceptions and attitudes of students towards chemistry, as well as the challenges faced by teachers in delivering effective instruction.

The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the current state of chemistry education in senior secondary schools in Lagos State. The results will help identify areas of improvement and inform the development of strategies to enhance the teaching and learning of chemistry. The research outcomes will be relevant for educational policymakers, curriculum developers, school administrators, and chemistry teachers, enabling them to make informed decisions and implement effective interventions.
