Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the extent of utilization of the play method of teaching in pre-primary schools in the Awka Education Zone. The play method is considered a developmentally appropriate approach that fosters holistic learning among young children. However, its implementation and utilization in pre-primary schools may vary, influenced by factors such as teacher training, school policies, and cultural beliefs.

The study will employ a mixed-methods research design, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The sample will consist of pre-primary school teachers, administrators, and parents within the Awka Education Zone. A questionnaire will be used to gather quantitative data on the frequency and types of play-based activities utilized in the classroom. Additionally, interviews and focus group discussions will be conducted to obtain qualitative insights into the factors influencing the extent of play method utilization.

The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on early childhood education and the implementation of play-based approaches in pre-primary schools. It is expected that the study will reveal the current extent of play method utilization in the Awka Education Zone, identify potential barriers and challenges, and highlight opportunities for improvement.

The implications of the study's findings can inform educational policymakers, school administrators, and teachers in developing strategies to enhance the incorporation of play-based methods in pre-primary education. By promoting the utilization of the play method, educators can create an engaging and conducive learning environment that supports the holistic development of young children, including their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical domains.
