ABSTRACT

This research project aims to identify the 21st-century skill requirements necessary for successful business entrepreneurship among Business Education students in Abia State. As the business landscape continuously evolves, entrepreneurs need to possess a range of skills beyond traditional business knowledge. This study seeks to investigate the specific skills that business education students in Abia State perceive as essential for thriving in the contemporary entrepreneurial environment and achieving success in their business ventures.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys and interviews to collect data from Business Education students in Abia State. The research objectives include identifying the 21st-century skills perceived as important by business education students for successful entrepreneurship, exploring the level of acquisition of these skills, and examining the factors influencing skill development.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the 21st-century skill requirements for successful business entrepreneurship among Business Education students in Abia State. The research will identify the specific skills considered crucial by students, such as critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, digital literacy, and adaptability. It will assess the level of acquisition of these skills, providing an understanding of students’ self-perceived competence. Furthermore, the study will explore the factors influencing the development of these skills, including curriculum design, teaching methods, extracurricular activities, and industry engagement.

The implications of this research extend to Business Education students, faculty members, curriculum developers, policymakers, and entrepreneurial support organizations in Abia State. The findings will provide students with insights into the 21st-century skills they should prioritize in their entrepreneurial journey and guide their personal and professional development. Faculty members and curriculum developers can utilize the research findings to align the curriculum with the skill requirements of the contemporary business environment, integrating innovative teaching methods and experiential learning opportunities. Policymakers can leverage the research findings to inform policies and initiatives that promote entrepreneurship education and foster the development of 21st-century skills. Entrepreneurial support organizations can use the research findings to design targeted programs and resources to enhance the entrepreneurial capabilities of Business Education students
