ASSESSMENT OF SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS’ FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN IMO STATE OF NIGERIA.
Abstract:
Effective financial management is crucial for the smooth functioning and sustainable development of educational institutions. This study aims to assess the financial management practices of secondary school principals in Imo State, Nigeria. The research investigates the principals' knowledge, skills, and implementation of financial management practices, as well as the challenges they encounter.
A mixed-methods approach will be employed, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. A structured questionnaire will be administered to a sample of secondary school principals in Imo State to gather quantitative data. The questionnaire will focus on various aspects of financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, procurement, and resource allocation.
Additionally, in-depth interviews and focus group discussions will be conducted with selected principals to gain a deeper understanding of their experiences, perspectives, and challenges in financial management. The qualitative data will be analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to identify common themes and patterns.
The findings of this study will contribute to the existing literature on educational finance and provide valuable insights into the financial management practices of secondary school principals in Imo State. The research will identify areas of strength and areas needing improvement, enabling policymakers and educational stakeholders to develop targeted interventions and support mechanisms.
The study's results are expected to inform the development of capacity-building programs and training initiatives for principals, aimed at enhancing their financial management competencies. Ultimately, this research aims to improve the financial accountability and transparency of secondary schools in Imo State, leading to better resource utilization and improved educational outcomes.
