Abstract:
Citizenship education plays a crucial role in shaping the values, attitudes, and behaviours of students, preparing them to become active and responsible citizens in their societies. With the advancements in technology, animated instruction resources have emerged as a potential tool to enhance students' learning experiences. This study aims to investigate the effect of animated instruction resources on tertiary students' achievement and interest in citizenship education at Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa.
The study will employ a mixed-methods research design, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis techniques. A sample of tertiary students from Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa will be selected using a purposive sampling technique. The participants will be divided into two groups: an experimental group exposed to animated instruction resources and a control group receiving traditional instructional methods.
Quantitative data will be collected through pre- and post-tests to evaluate students' achievement in citizenship education. Additionally, a Likert-scale questionnaire will be administered to measure students' interest and engagement in the subject. Qualitative data will be gathered through focus group discussions and interviews to gain deeper insights into students' perceptions of the animated instruction resources.
Data analysis will involve statistical tests such as independent t-tests and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) to determine if there are significant differences in achievement between the experimental and control groups. Thematic analysis will be employed to analyse qualitative data and identify emerging themes regarding students' interest in and perceptions of the animated instruction resources.
The expected outcomes of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the effectiveness of animated instruction resources in citizenship education. Findings may inform educational policymakers, teachers, and curriculum developers about the potential benefits of incorporating animated resources into instructional practices.
