IMPLEMENTATION OF PUSH FACTORS AND WORKPLACE MOTIVATION AS CORRELATES OF LABOUR MIGRATION TENDENCY AMONG ACADEMIC STAFF OF UNIVERSITIES IN SOUTHEAST, NIGERIA.

Abstract:
Labor migration among academic staff members in universities is a significant phenomenon in many regions, including Southeast, Nigeria. This study aims to explore the relationship between push factors, workplace motivation, and the tendency of academic staff to migrate. Understanding these correlations can provide insights for the development of effective strategies to retain and motivate academic staff members in the region.

The study will employ a mixed-methods research design, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The participants will consist of academic staff members from various universities in the Southeast region of Nigeria. The survey will gather data on demographic information, push factors influencing labor migration, and workplace motivation factors affecting retention decisions. Semi-structured interviews will provide in-depth insights into the experiences, perspectives, and motivations of academic staff regarding labor migration.

The data collected will be analyzed using statistical techniques such as correlation analysis and regression analysis to examine the relationships between push factors, workplace motivation, and labor migration tendency. Additionally, thematic analysis will be conducted on the qualitative data to identify common themes and patterns related to labor migration.

The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing literature on labor migration among academic staff and provide practical implications for universities and policymakers in Nigeria. By understanding the push factors influencing labor migration and the role of workplace motivation, universities can develop targeted strategies to enhance job satisfaction, improve working conditions, and create a supportive environment for academic staff.
