COMPARATIVE EFFECTS OF BLENDED AND E-LEARNING ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN RESEARCH METHODOLOGY IN BASIC SCHOOLS OF NURSING IN ANAMBRA STATE

Abstract:
This study examines the comparative effects of blended learning and e-learning on students' academic achievement in research methodology within basic schools of nursing in Anambra State. As technology continues to advance, educational institutions are adopting various instructional approaches to enhance learning outcomes. Blended learning, which combines traditional face-to-face instruction with online components, and e-learning, which is entirely conducted online, have emerged as popular alternatives to traditional classroom teaching.

The research methodology course holds significant importance in nursing education, as it equips students with essential skills to conduct research and contribute to evidence-based practice. However, limited research has been conducted to assess the effectiveness of blended learning and e-learning in improving students' academic achievement in research methodology within the nursing domain.

This study adopts a quantitative research design, employing a pretest-posttest control group design. Basic schools of nursing in Anambra State will be selected as the study population, and students enrolled in the research methodology course will participate. The participants will be randomly assigned to two groups: the blended learning group and the e-learning group.

Data will be collected through pretest and posttest assessments, which will measure students' academic achievement in research methodology. The assessments will cover various aspects of the course, including research design, data collection methods, data analysis, and interpretation of results. Additionally, students' perceptions of the instructional methods will be collected through a post-study questionnaire.

The collected data will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques, such as independent samples t-tests, to compare the academic achievement between the blended learning and e-learning groups. Furthermore, qualitative analysis will be conducted to explore students' perceptions of the instructional methods.

The anticipated findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge regarding the comparative effectiveness of blended learning and e-learning in nursing education, specifically in the research methodology course. The results will inform educational institutions, curriculum developers, and nursing educators in Anambra State and beyond about the potential benefits and limitations of these instructional approaches in enhancing students' academic achievement in research methodology.
