Abstract:
The integration of computer technology in education has become increasingly important in today's digital age. This study aims to investigate the competency training needs of agricultural science teachers in Ekiti State, Nigeria, with regards to the use of computers for efficient teaching in senior secondary schools. By identifying the specific areas of competency that require improvement, this research seeks to provide valuable insights into the professional development needs of agricultural science teachers in the region.

The study utilizes a mixed-methods research design, combining both qualitative and quantitative approaches. A sample of agricultural science teachers from senior secondary schools in Ekiti State is selected through stratified random sampling techniques. Data is collected through questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations to gather comprehensive information regarding the teachers' current computer proficiency levels, challenges faced in integrating computer technology, and their perceived training needs.

The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the understanding of the existing gaps in agricultural science teachers' computer competencies in Ekiti State. The results will shed light on the specific areas where teachers require additional training, such as basic computer skills, educational software utilization, online resources, technology integration strategies, and pedagogical approaches for effective teaching.

The implications of this research extend beyond the individual teachers. The outcomes will inform policymakers, curriculum developers, and educational institutions about the importance of incorporating professional development programs that address the specific training needs of agricultural science teachers in Ekiti State. Such initiatives can enhance the overall quality of education in the region and equip teachers with the necessary skills to effectively utilize computer technology in their teaching practices.

In conclusion, this study aims to bridge the competency gaps in agricultural science teachers' abilities to use computers for efficient teaching in senior secondary schools in Ekiti State. The research findings will provide valuable insights into designing targeted training programs that empower teachers to leverage computer technology effectively, ultimately improving the quality of agricultural science education in the region.
