Abstract:
This paper explores the importance of acquiring 21st century skills for business and technology education graduates in Rivers State, Nigeria. In today’s rapidly evolving global economy, the acquisition of relevant skills is vital for individuals to thrive and succeed in their chosen careers. The 21st century has witnessed significant advancements in technology and a shift towards a knowledge-based economy, making it crucial for graduates to possess a diverse skill set that aligns with the needs of the modern business and technology landscape.
This study aims to identify the key 21st century skills that are particularly important for business and technology education graduates in Rivers State. These skills include critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, digital literacy, problem-solving, adaptability, and entrepreneurial mindset. By analyzing the current industry demands and the challenges faced by graduates in the region, this research aims to bridge the gap between traditional education and the requirements of today’s dynamic workplace.
The research methodology involves a comprehensive literature review, surveys, and interviews with industry experts, educators, and recent graduates. The data collected will provide insights into the existing curriculum and pedagogical approaches in business and technology education programs, as well as the perceived relevance of the skills acquired by graduates.
The findings of this study will contribute to the development of strategies for enhancing the acquisition of 21st century skills in business and technology education programs. Recommendations may include curriculum revisions, incorporation of experiential learning opportunities, integration of technology into teaching practices, and partnerships between educational institutions and industry stakeholders to facilitate skill development and practical application.
By empowering business and technology education graduates with the necessary 21st century skills, this research aims to enhance their employability, entrepreneurial potential, and overall contribution to the economic growth and development of Rivers State. The study’s outcomes will benefit educational policymakers, institutions, educators, and graduates, providing them with valuable insights to align their programs with the evolving needs of the business and technology sectors.
