ASSESSING MOBILE LEARNING READINESS AMONG FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING STUDENTS OF GOVERNMENT SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL COLLEGES IN GOMBE STATE
Abstract:
Mobile learning has emerged as a promising educational approach, leveraging the ubiquity of mobile devices and their potential to enhance learning experiences. This study aims to assess the readiness of financial accounting students in Government Science and Technical Colleges in Gombe State, Nigeria, to embrace mobile learning. The assessment focuses on identifying the students' access to mobile devices, their digital literacy skills, and their attitudes towards integrating mobile technology into their accounting education.
A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. A sample of financial accounting students from multiple Government Science and Technical Colleges in Gombe State will be selected using a stratified random sampling technique. The quantitative survey will gather data on student demographics, mobile device ownership, frequency of mobile device usage, and perceived digital literacy skills. Additionally, the survey will gauge students' attitudes towards mobile learning and their perceptions of its potential benefits and challenges.
The qualitative interviews will provide an in-depth exploration of students' experiences, opinions, and suggestions regarding mobile learning. The interviews will be conducted with a subset of survey participants selected through purposive sampling. The qualitative data will be analyzed thematically to extract meaningful patterns and themes.
The findings of this study will contribute to understanding the current state of mobile learning readiness among financial accounting students in Gombe State. The results will inform educational policymakers, curriculum developers, and educators about the feasibility and potential effectiveness of integrating mobile learning strategies into the financial accounting curriculum. Furthermore, the study will identify potential barriers and challenges that need to be addressed to successfully implement mobile learning initiatives in the context of Government Science and Technical Colleges in Gombe State.
