THE MANAGEMENT OF BUSINESS TEACHER EDUCATION IN COLLEGES OF EDUCATION IN THE SOUTH-SOUTH ZONE OF NIGERIA

ABSTRACT 

This research project aims to investigate the management of business teacher education in colleges of education in the South-South zone of Nigeria. Business teacher education plays a critical role in preparing individuals to become competent and effective business teachers who can contribute to the development of the business education sector. Understanding the management practices and challenges in business teacher education is essential for enhancing the quality and relevance of teacher preparation programs in the South-South zone.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and statistical analysis to collect data from faculty members, administrators, and students in colleges of education. The research objectives include examining the existing management practices in business teacher education, identifying the challenges faced by stakeholders, exploring the perceptions and experiences of faculty members and students, and proposing strategies for improving the management of business teacher education programs.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the management of business teacher education in the South-South zone of Nigeria. The research will examine the existing management practices, including program planning, curriculum design, faculty qualifications, teaching methodologies, assessment strategies, and resources allocation. It will identify the challenges faced by stakeholders, such as inadequate funding, limited resources, outdated curriculum, lack of professional development opportunities, and inadequate infrastructure. The study will explore the perceptions and experiences of faculty members and students regarding the effectiveness and relevance of current management practices. Based on the findings, the research will propose strategies for improving the management of business teacher education programs, including strengthening collaboration with industry partners, enhancing faculty development programs, revising curriculum content, leveraging technology for instructional delivery, and advocating for increased funding and resources.

The implications of this research extend to colleges of education, faculty members, administrators, policymakers, and students. The findings will provide colleges of education with insights into the management practices and challenges in business teacher education, informing strategic planning and decision-making processes. Faculty members can gain knowledge of effective management strategies, enhancing their teaching and program delivery. Administrators and policymakers can utilize the research outcomes to develop policies and allocate resources that support the improvement of business teacher education programs. Students can benefit from improved management practices, as these practices contribute to the quality and relevance of their teacher preparation
