IMPACT OF VIRTUAL PHYSICS LABORATORY ON STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN PHYSICS

Abstract:
The integration of technology in educational settings has revolutionized the way students learn and engage with various subjects. This abstract explores the impact of a Virtual Physics Laboratory (VPL) on students' academic achievement in the field of physics. The VPL is a computer-based simulation that replicates real-world laboratory experiments, allowing students to perform physics experiments virtually.

This study aimed to investigate whether the use of a VPL enhances students' academic achievement in physics when compared to traditional laboratory methods. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods.

The quantitative aspect involved assessing the academic achievement of two groups of students: one group using the VPL and another group using traditional laboratory methods. Pre- and post-tests were administered to measure students' understanding of physics concepts, problem-solving abilities, and experimental skills. Statistical analyses, such as t-tests, were employed to evaluate the significance of any differences in academic achievement between the two groups.

The qualitative component involved interviews and surveys to gather students' perceptions and experiences regarding the use of the VPL. Their feedback regarding the ease of use, engagement level, and perceived benefits of the VPL were analyzed to gain insights into the impact of the virtual laboratory on their learning.

The findings of this study demonstrated a positive impact of the VPL on students' academic achievement in physics. The group using the VPL showed significantly higher scores in physics understanding, problem-solving, and experimental skills compared to the group using traditional laboratory methods. Additionally, the qualitative data indicated that students found the VPL to be engaging, interactive, and conducive to independent learning.

The results suggest that integrating a Virtual Physics Laboratory into the physics curriculum can enhance students' academic achievement by providing a platform for hands-on learning experiences, independent exploration, and a deeper understanding of physics concepts. The VPL offers flexibility in terms of time, resources, and accessibility, allowing students to perform experiments at their own pace and revisit them as needed.

These findings have implications for educators and curriculum developers in the field of physics education. The integration of VPLs can supplement traditional laboratory experiences, providing students with an additional avenue to develop their conceptual understanding and skills in physics. Future research may focus on exploring the long-term effects of using VPLs on students' academic achievement and investigating the impact of specific features or design elements of VPLs on learning outcomes.
